As the signature performing arts program of Tausi Vā, The Hālau operates as a traditional school of hula, providing multi-modal instruction in dance, chant (oli), language (ʻōlelo), and cultural protocol. Grounded in ancestral lineage, our space serves as a living sanctuary for students and culture bearers of all generations.
Instruction in authentic movement, footwork, posture, and expressive storytelling honoring our ancestral lineages.
Integrating oral traditions, native Hawaiian language (ʻōlelo), and genealogical chants (oli) into instruction to preserve linguistic heritage.
Teaching the core values, ethics, history, and respect (aloha) that govern performance traditions inside the hālau and out in the community.
Kumu Arnaz Kekela Ifopō is the Kumu Hula of Hālau Hula Nā ʻOhu Maile ʻO Kula Moku and a founding leader of Tausi Vā. Trained under Rolanda Reese and with guidance from Aunty Mae Kamamalu Klein, Kumu Kekela brings over 25 years of dedicated study and practice in traditional hula, chant (oli), language (ʻōlelo), and cultural protocol. Kumu Kekela formally underwent ʻūniki August 2022 in Southern California and opened hālau the following year.
Deeply committed to serving the diaspora, Kumu Kekela views the hālau not merely as a dance space, but as a living sanctuary for intergenerational healing, identity preservation, and tending to the vā. Through rigorous instruction and compassionate mentorship, Kumu Kekela guides students to honor the hula traditions and lineage of Aunty Maiki Aiu Lake.
